Der JaguarSport XJR-15 ist ein seltenes und außergewöhnliches Fahrzeug, das oft im Schatten seines berühmteren Nachfolgers, des XJ220, steht. Entstanden aus Jaguars reichem Erbe im Motorsport, war der XJR-15 das Ergebnis einer Zusammenarbeit zwischen Jaguar und Tom Walkinshaw Racing (TWR). Eingeführt im Jahr 1990, war der XJR-15 das erste Straßenauto, das vollständig aus Kohlefaser gefertigt wurde, einem Material, das zu dieser Zeit hauptsächlich in der Formel 1 verwendet wurde, was seine Rennsportabstammung unterstreicht.

Der XJR-15 basierte auf dem Jaguar XJR-9, der 1988 die 24 Stunden von Le Mans gewonnen hatte. Dieses Auto wurde von Peter Stevens entworfen, der auch am ikonischen McLaren F1 arbeitete. Der XJR-15 war mit einem 6,0-Liter-V12-Motor ausgestattet, der 450 PS leistete und das Auto in weniger als 4 Sekunden von 0 auf 100 km/h beschleunigen konnte, mit einer Höchstgeschwindigkeit von 307 km/h. Es wurden nur 53 Exemplare gebaut, was ihn heute zu einem äußerst seltenen Sammlerstück macht.

Jaguars Erbe im Motorsport
Jaguars Engagement im Motorsport geht auf die 1950er Jahre zurück, eine goldene Ära für die Marke. Der Jaguar XK120, der 1948 vorgestellt wurde, ebnete den Weg für Jaguars Rennsport-Erfolge. 1951 und 1953 gewann Jaguar die 24 Stunden von Le Mans mit dem C-Type, einem Auto, das Scheibenbremsen im Motorsport einführte, eine revolutionäre Neuerung zu dieser Zeit.

Der D-Type folgte dem C-Type und wurde zu einem der ikonischsten Rennwagen der 1950er Jahre. Er gewann Le Mans dreimal in Folge von 1955 bis 1957. Das aerodynamische Design und die fortschrittliche Technik des D-Type machten ihn zu einer dominierenden Kraft auf der Rennstrecke.

Nach einer Pause vom werksunterstützten Rennsport kehrte Jaguar in den 1980er Jahren mit voller Kraft zurück. Die Partnerschaft mit Tom Walkinshaw Racing (TWR) erwies sich als fruchtbar und gipfelte in der Entwicklung der XJR-Serie von Langstrecken-Rennwagen. Besonders herausragend war der XJR-9, der 1988 den Sieg bei den 24 Stunden von Le Mans errang und damit die langjährige Dominanz von Porsche bei diesem Event beendete.
